To solve this problem of water shortage, the government has built the Indira Gandhi Canal. It was known as the Rajasthan Canal earlier.

What is a canal?

A canal is a long, man-made strip of water used for irrigation or boat access to a bigger body of 

water.

Indira Gandhi Canal 

The Canal provides drinking water and water for irrigation.

** River Luni is the only river of this desert region. It is a seasonal river.**
